Current Surgical is a startup company developing technology on the frontier of engineering and biology. Our first product is a smart microinvasive needle that precisely destroys tumors without damaging healthy tissue, allowing doctors to treat cancers that are untreatable today.

About you
We are looking for a biomedical engineer (or a mechanical and/or electrical engineer who is interested in biomedical R&D) who is excited to develop technology at the interface of medical devices and biology. You will work directly with the co-founders to design and execute ex vivo experiments that will guide the development of our clinical prototype.
The ideal candidate is someone who is interested in working at a startup and is eager to develop their technical skills. This is a unique opportunity, as one of our first employees, to be involved with multiple aspects of a hardtech biomedical startup, including preclinical studies, interfacing with clinicians, and fundraising.
This is a paid position. Minimum of 12 weeks required for internship; co-op duration equivalent to summer and fall academic semesters. Part-time or full-time opportunities are available after successful completion of the internship or co-op. Ideal start date would be in April or May, but we can be flexible.
Educational background
BS candidate with 3+ years of coursework or MS candidate in biomedical/mechanical/electrical engineering (or related field)
Desired skills
Ability to develop and execute rigorous experiments
Prior applied research experience (e.g., other industry internships, undergraduate/graduate research)
General knowledge of medical imaging
Data analysis experience with Matlab and/or Python
Elementary experience with CAD tools (e.g., Solidworks, Fusion 360)
Location
This position is based in Washington, DC. Up-to-date vaccination is required for access to the facility.
