Deep Learning and Image Processing Scientist - Washington, DC
About Current Surgical Inc.
Current Surgical is a startup company developing technology on the frontier of engineering and biology. Our first product is a smart microinvasive needle that precisely destroys tumors without damaging healthy tissue, allowing doctors to treat cancers that are untreatable today.
Our technology is backed by the National Institute of Health, National Science Foundation, and top tier venture capital firms (True Ventures, 1517, Scifounders) interested in dramatically improving the accuracy and accessibility of surgery.
About you
We are looking for a deep learning scientist who is excited to develop technology at the forefront of medical devices and precision surgery. You will work directly with the co-founders to design, develop, and test our clinical prototype. This is a difficult hands-on engineering challenge that integrates deep learning, image processing, novel hardware, and real-time signal processing.
The ideal candidate is someone who is interested in working at a startup and is eager to challenge their technical development. This is a unique opportunity, as one of the first senior employees, you will have the opportunity to work across many areas of a hardtech biomedical startup, including preclinical studies, and interfacing with clinicians. We are expecting you to play a key role in the algorithm development of our system, understanding and trading-off engineering needs and clinical requirements. Our hardware will collect a modality of imaging data never previously recorded or combined, so you should be comfortable developing new architectures and approaches to image processing. Further, the role requires a multidisciplinary approach, working with the mechanical, electrical, and software teams to achieve our fundamental clinical goals. As we grow, we envision this role growing into a leadership role.
Educational background
PhD in the fields of computer science, biomedical engineering, medical physics, and/or closely related fields. MS or BS with 4-5 years of equivalent work experience (industry or academia) will also be considered.
Desired skills
Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and/or TensorFlow
Experience with or desire for developing physics-based deep learning models
Experience applying image processing, computer vision, and/or deep learning techniques for image analysis, preferably for medical imaging applications
Experience with being both a deep learning practitioner and researcher. Must be comfortable developing solutions using data from novel sources and modalities.
Proficiency in Python
Good understanding of statistical analysis and its application to deep learning
Ultrasound image processing and image reconstruction preferred, but not required
Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral)
Location
This position may be primarily remote as long as the candidate has the ability to travel to the onsite location in Washington, DC as needed.
