Current Surgical is a startup company developing technology on the frontier of engineering and biology. Our first product is a smart microinvasive needle that precisely destroys tumors without damaging healthy tissue, allowing doctors to treat cancers that are untreatable today.


We have received funding through a SciFounder Fellowship and the National Science Foundation, and are a recognized Medtech Innovator company.


About you


We are looking for a Fellow with expertise in the field of medical image processing and deep learning who is excited to develop technology at the interface of medical devices and biology. You will work directly with the co-founders to prototype imaging and sensing algorithms that will guide the development of our clinical prototype. The ideal candidate is someone who is interested in working at a startup and is eager to develop their technical skills.

This is a paid position for a minimum of 3-6 months. Full-time opportunities are available after successful completion of the fellowship.


Experience and educational background

  • PhD or PhD candidate near graduation in the fields of electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, medical physics, and/or closely related field. MS or BS with 4-5 years of equivalent work experience (industry or academia) will also be considered.


Desired skills


  • Ultrasound image processing and image reconstruction preferred, but not required

  • Experience with or desire for developing physics-based deep learning models

  • Experience with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow

  • Experience with developing code in Python


Location


This position may be fully remote as long as the candidate has the ability to accommodate both PST and EST time zones. On-site location available at our Irvine, CA, or Washington, DC, locations. If remote, candidates must have the ability to travel to these locations as required.
